Another week and a lot of new things, and some old things that we are catching up on, are being done.
THANKS TO THE GREEN AND GOLD
The Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Public Service planted a tree at Skyline Park in Ashwaubenon. They are donating 25 trees to this Village and about 335 trees throughout the County . . . . possibly more. Why more? Because they are going to plant one tree per first down throughout the entire season.
Packer CEO Mark Murphy told the group on hand at Skyline Park “as the football team racks up first downs, we’ll be adding to the positive environmental impact trees have, while beautifying neighborhoods, providing energy savings and producing cleaner air”. The program is called “First Downs for Trees”.
The Packers are hoping to reduce their carbon footprint by planting the trees, much the same as they did when they increased their recycling at home football games and by purchasing other renewable energy.
In addition, the “First Downs for Trees” program is just one program that the Packers Green Team has been involved in, according to WPS President & CEO Larry Borgard. He said the trees will compliment WPS’s NatureWise program.
COMMUNITY INPUT
If you have not voiced your opinion on your views of citizens groups who have asked the Village and School District for an aquatics center, community center, increased library and new auditorium, you still have time to do so. Remember, I don’t want to just hear one side. E-mail or call me whether you support one, all or none. We want your input. You can e-mail me at maubinger@ashwaubenon.com or call my office at 492-2301 during business hours, or leave a message after business hours. I look forward to hearing from you.
ONEIDA STREET
A final decision on whether Oneida Street should be 4 or 6 lanes will be decided over the next two weeks. On July 6th, the Plan Board and Public Works and Protection Committee will hold a meeting to make their recommendation on the roadway. That recommendation will then be forwarded to the Village Board on July 13th when they will make a final decision. All meetings will be carried on Time Warner Cable Channel 4. On July 6th the meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and on July 13th the meeting starts at 7 p.m.
THE SURVEY
The Village survey will be sent out right after the 4th of July. It will go to 1,435 homes with the responses going directly to Martec, a firm that specializes in this type of work. The Village officials will never see any of the sheets so it will be completely confidential. Some people asked me what was on the survey. I am afraid it is a little lengthy because we need to know how you feel about a lot of items. I encourage you to sit down and fill it out to help your village.
Items on the survey include:
List the Village services that you could not live without.
List the Village services that you use the least and would not mind seeing cut.
Do you favor using tax dollars to build an aquatics center to replace the existing high school pool built in 1965?
Do you favor using tax dollars to build an auditorium to replace the existing high school auditorium built in 1965?
Do you favor using tax dollars to build a Community (senior) Center to replace the existing one built in 1969?
Do you favor using tax dollars to increase the size or build a new or renovated Library to replace the one built in 1977?
There will also be a lot of questions regarding the Ashwaubenon School District and your satisfaction with the curriculum, etc.
One question centers on your safety. It will ask if you feel safe in the Village of Ashwaubenon. I will ask if you feel safe in your neighborhood.
There is also a question regarding the Village Board and whether or not we are doing our jobs to your liking.
These are the types of questions on public safety, public works services, and perceptions of your interaction with Village personnel that the survey will ask.
Remember to fill out the survey if you receive one.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
The Ashwaubenon Park and Recreation Department had another hit during the Concerts in the Park Series with the band The Hits, a 1950 and 1960 rock band, on June 30th. Throngs of residents were on hand at Klipstine Park. There were so many people at the park that the KC’s sold out of all the food and refreshments.
The band had everyone’s toes tapping and the theatricality of the band trio revved everyone up at the concert.
Next Wednesday, between 11:30 and 2 p.m. you can think about Dixieland. The “Talk of the Town”, a Dixieland Band and crowd favorite, will be on hand.
Don’t miss the summer concert series. If you have a son or daughter going to Parkview or the Ashwaubenon High School for summer school and you pick them up around noon, Klipstine Park serves really great tasting hamburgers, cheeseburgers, brats and hot dogs, along with some good music.
Children’s storytime will be at 10:30 a.m. in the same area.
By the way all this is FREE, local businesses or groups pay for the band costs. Last Wednesday Bank First National paid for the band and next week the Dixieland Band is being sponsored by the Ashwaubenon Lions Club. This is a great family outing.
